Term 3 Week 6

MATHS
This week we started our new unit on fractions. Here are some photos of us using playdough to make fractions.

SPORT
This week for sport with Miss Stroligo we continued working on our baseball skills. We are becoming experts and bowling and fielding. We are looking forward to putting these into practice in a baseball game over the next few weeks.

SPELLING
Last week for homework we focused on spelling words with the letter ‘a’. We were asked to write our spelling words on a piece of material. As you can see some of us have been thinking outside of the box and writing these on baking paper, wood, rocks and in other forms.

SCIENCE

This week was National Science Week and we were fortunate enough to attend Chevallier College. One of the things that we did while we were there was the chemical cannon. Here are some photos.

Term 3 Week 5

On Wednesday 12th August, Year 5 and 6 set off at 6:30am to Canberra.

Our first stop was the Australian War Memorial. The war memorial was an amazing experience that kindly commemorates the sacrifice of those Australians who fought at war. We were placed into smaller groups and were fortunate enough to receive a knowledgeable tour guide that walked us around the Memorial. Our tour guides showed us the uniforms and  the boats that the ANZAC’s arrived in Gallipoli in. We also looked at the roll of honour which was embellished in poppies.

The next stop was Parliament House where we were fortunate enough to meet Mr. Stephen Jones. We took part in a role play which gave us the opportunity to voice our opinion about TV commercials during children’s TV shows. We were given a guided tour of the House of Representatives, Senate Chamber and viewed the paintings of past Prime Ministers.

Our last stop was the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Discovery Centre. The Discovery Centre showcases the achievements into the world of science history. We were able to learn about different research achievements and learnt about their value to society.

We had a great day and are looking forward to our next excursion!
