On Wednesday 12th August, Year 5
and 6 set off at 6:30am to Canberra.
Our first stop was the Australian War
Memorial. The war memorial was an amazing experience that kindly commemorates
the sacrifice of those Australians who fought at war. We were placed into
smaller groups and were fortunate enough to receive a knowledgeable tour guide
that walked us around the Memorial. Our tour guides showed us the uniforms and the boats that the ANZAC’s arrived in
Gallipoli in. We also looked at the roll of honour which was embellished in
poppies.
The next stop was Parliament House where we
were fortunate enough to meet Mr. Stephen Jones. We took part in a role play
which gave us the opportunity to voice our opinion about TV commercials during
children’s TV shows. We were given a guided tour of the House of
Representatives, Senate Chamber and viewed the paintings of past Prime
Ministers.
Our last stop was the Commonwealth
Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Discovery Centre. The
Discovery Centre showcases the achievements into the world of science history.
We were able to learn about different research achievements and learnt about
their value to society.
We had a great day and are looking forward
to our next excursion!
